Guests from culture, politics, and business got together in June at the Summer Marketing Event to find out more on the topic of “brand and diversity”.

The focus of the event was the search for new talent and the call for diversity.

As part of the Marketing Club Dresden Team, Nicole Schiertz co-organized this colorful event and she will tell us in this interview what the marketing club is about, what role it plays and how they spontaneously decided to use an event app.

We hope you enjoy reading this customer story.

LineUpr: Hello Nicole. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Could you please briefly introduce yourself and explain what the Marketing Club Dresden is and what JuMPs stands for?

Nicole: Hello. I am Nicole. Thank you for the opportunity to do this interview. The Marketing-Club Dresden brings together a wide variety of professional groups from a wide range of sectors: university teachers, entrepreneurs, product managers, marketing and sales managers, key account managers and service providers from advertising and consulting. The Marketing Club Dresden is one of the 65 regional clubs of the German Marketing Association, which form a nationwide marketing network throughout Germany. As a local meeting place, they are an integral part of the economic life of their region for more than 10,000 marketing managers and companies. One of the special benefits of club membership is that it entitles you to participate in the regular events of all German marketing clubs for free. Of course, every club member can also use the extensive offers of the German Marketing Association.

I myself am a member of the JuMPs (which is the Junior Marketing Professionals)

We are all members of the German Marketing Association under 35 years.

We network local and national personal and professional development set new standards in the scene and provide fresh energy to the city.

LineUpr: How much time and work do you spend on the planning of the event on average?

Nicole: We try to meet at regular intervals, to exchange ideas and to plan our fixed events in the year. As a rule, the meetings, which take place approximately once a month, take about 3 to 4 hours to complete. Of course, if an event is just around the corner, we will invest more time in the preparation. The number of members can vary. For example, volunteers and new members

LineUpr: What makes the event special? Which target group do you want to address and what added value do you offer the participants?

Nicole: We appeal to people who are very interested in marketing-related topics. Both professional and private. We want to offer a network, to provide food for thought, to build up professional knowledge and to ensure professional and personal development. We try to constantly develop our solid know-how, to come up with new ideas, to address current topics and to find exciting speakers and visionaries to exchange ideas. For this we organize, for example, our Fireplace Evening, networking events such as the National JuMP Conferences and Camp as well as our Summer Marketing.

LineUpr: You’ve used LineUpr for the first time. How did you learn about LineUpr and what was the decisive argument for you to use an event app?

Nicole: I was very fortunate to learn about LineUpr through an employee. The opportunity to make our event accessible and useful to the participants through this channel was an exciting and new experience.

The creation of the content, the participants and the surveys took about 4 hours.

LineUpr: How long before the event did you start creating the event app? How much time did you invest in the app?

Nicole: We started the implementation relatively soon, as we learned about the app relatively late. At the next event, I would start using the app earlier. The creation of the content, the participants and the surveys took about 4 hours. Due to many small changes in the event plan, we continued to work with the app daily.

LineUpr: When and how did you inform the event participants about the event app?

Nicole: We sent a mass mail with all the important details to the presenters and speakers in advance. The link to the app was also included. We also sent the link to all ticket buyers during the purchase process. All speakers received a request to share the app’s link via their communication channels.

LineUpr: How did your visitors react to the app?

Nicole: There was consistently positive feedback. However, many participants asked us what exactly they should do with the app. Due to the short-term nature, we were unable to use the full scope of the tools. Next year, the participants should be able to use the app more actively.
Of course, this must then be communicated more directly to the participants.

The app allows users to use the app playfully and with ease.

LineUpr: Keyword challenges. How do you deal with the trend of digitalization? How will this development change your event in the future? Do you try to take a look at other events?

Nicole: Of course. We want to evolve both as a club and with our formats. The trend of digitalization also plays a big role for us. A view to the left and right is in every way an advantage. Nevertheless, it is important for us to preserve the traditions of the club and to maintain our format while constantly improving their quality.

LineUpr: Which speakers or presentations are you particularly proud of? Which speaker would you like to have at your event?

Nicole: We are very proud of every presenter and speaker we could win for our event. Since we have not set the theme for the next Summer Marketing as yet, we are open to new visionaries and trendsetters.

LineUpr: Which top three tips would you like to give other organizers for the use of LineUpr?

Nicole:
1. Include the app as soon as possible in your preparation process and take the time to design and maintain all event details.
2. Allow users to use the app playfully and with ease.
3. Make sure that your partners, speakers and sponsors promote the communication of the app.

LineUpr: Thank you for the great interview. That sounds like an exciting and interesting event. You managed to offer a very high-content event to a wide range of top-class professionals. We are very happy that we were able to support you with our event app.

If this interview has sparked further interest in you about the activities and you want to learn more about the broad fields of activities of the Marketing Club Dresden, then take a look at their homepage.

Reading
time: 5 minutes

The Bunte Republik Neustadt is one of the
most important festivals in Dresden. In the alternative scene district, over
150,000 visitors celebrate for three days. There is a lot of art and culture,
bands, DJs and performances.

The event is self-organized and does not
follow any specific program. There are many small groups who have their own
agenda.

With this amount of information you can quickly lose track. An app definitely offers a solution to this. To get everything together in one place, Christian and Karl from the online portal Neustadt-Leben collected all the information about the festival and created an event app within one week. Here you will learn how to handle hundreds of program points at the same time and how they used, among other things, the survey function for social purposes.

LineUpr: Hello you two. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview. Please introduce yourself and explain what the Neustadt-Leben project is.

Christian and Karl: Hi, we are Christian Hille and Karl Adler. Christian is a lawyer and Karl is a computer scientist. We had the idea for the project Neustadt-Leben.de over 10 years ago, when there were not so many offers online for the Dresdener-Neustadt. We started to build a small community. Here users talked about the pubs in the Neustadt, arranged to meet for movie nights or sometimes for a barbecue in the Alaunpark.

LineUpr: What role do events play for you?

Christian and Karl: Later we specialized in summing up the events in the Neustadt so that we could give the sociable Neustadt resident a compact overview of the potential evening program.

This resulted in the desire to provide a good overview of the very extensive and varied program of the BRN. Unfortunately in the last few years nothing was done about this because of the lack of time, but this year we have finally managed to collect the bulk of the program points on time.

LineUpr: You used an event app from LineUpr for the Bunte Republik Neustadt (BRN). Please tell us more about this festival.

Christian and Karl: The BRN is actually not a classic event or even a district party, as some call it, but it actually stems from a half-joking idea from the 90s which proclaims the Dresden Neustadt as an independent micronation. On this occasion, the Bunte Republik has always been celebrated. Although much of the original character of the festival has suffered under the urban constraints, there is still the special aspect that there is neither an organizer nor a tightly planned program. Many residents contribute very individually and sometimes very spontaneously to the Bunte Republik.

LineUpr: What information did you use in the location profiles?

Christian and Karl: Actually only the location itself. Unfortunately, we lacked a bit of information from the individual organizers.

LineUpr: How do you rate the creation of the event app with LineUpr? What do you like and what can we improve?

Christian and Karl: Actually, it was really awesome, how quickly you can create such an event app from scratch. With the Excel-Import, it would be nice, if you don’t have to reconfigure all the column assignments etc., if an error occurs during the import. Unfortunately we had this quite often.

We actually customized everything, once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy and it gives the app the finishing touch.

LineUpr:
Did you also use the survey features?

Christian
and Karl: Yes, in parallel with the event app, we gave
out postcards with typical Neustadt motifs in exchange for a donation. The
proceeds of the donation were to be donated to a Club in the Neustadt, but we
wanted our users to participate in the decision. That’s why we created a survey
asking who should receive the donation. Of the five clubs to choose from, there
was an exciting head-to-head race between the City Gardens Association and the
Treberhilfe, which won in the end.

Reading time: 2 minute

From time to time, messages such as the following appear in our chat or e-mail:
Hello LineUpr Team, can you help us with this?
The main speaker should appear at the top of the line-up, the rest should be sorted by last name.
Additionally, we have 4 program points that run simultaneously and should be displayed from A to D. (…)
Of course, we can set that up quickly for you, but actually, it’s so easy that you too can do it in just a few seconds. You will find out here exactly how to do this.

Basics – why is it important?

Properly sorted is already half of the battle. You could see it like this.
Some still have a few problems with the app-internal sorting function or do not even know how to use it correctly.
We want to change that today and show you how to sort by last name, for example.
Used sensibly, you can get out of it any listing sequence of the line-up and create many more points.

Concrete Example

As a basis, you probably noticed that the system is sorted by default according to the character (first numbers, then letters). This is how it is in the line-up, in the location overview, and in the Infos. Basically wherever you can find a sorting field.

Note:

There is also a sorting function as a
drop-down menu in the respective overviews, which, however, only refers to the
CMS and not to the app presentation.

How do I change the sorting?

In the picture above you can see three contributors to the line-up. The sorting is set to default. In other words, the number 100 appears in the sorting field. It is thus sorted according to numbers and then letters of the profile title.

There are two ways to change this sequence.

The easiest way is to enter a defined number in the sorting field and to define which entry is at which position. As a result, the order changes accordingly.

Our participant Paul has now moved to the
top of the depiction.

Sorting by last name

Now let’s look at a different sequence.

We now have more participants in this example and would like to sort them by gender and last name.

Now you have to divide the participants into female and male. For this, we chose, for example, the letters A and B.

Then just add the last name.

For this, you can either open each participant’s entry and make adjustments there or you can export the entries as Excel or CSV files and quickly edit everything in the column sortOrder.
The last procedure is recommended especially if you have a lot of entries.

After importing the edited file, the layout is automatically adjusted.

With this system, you can now make your individual adjustments.
As described above, this also works for the locations and info pages.
The sponsors could be sorted according to their packages, for example.
When displaying the program, the order can also be adjusted. Here you only have to note that the beginning of a program point is more important than your sorting information.
Only if program points start at the same time does sorting play a role. We hope that future adjustments will now be easier for you.

What should you have learned

Sorting from A to Z or Z to A you should
now go quickly from the hand in the big as in the small.

The post Tutorial – In-App Sorting first appeared on LineUpr Blog.

In this tutorial, we'll quickly and easily explain how the event URL is constructed and how you can customize it later on.

The post Tutorial – Editing the Event URL first appeared on LineUpr Blog.

Reading
time: 2 minutes

“Hello LineUpr Team, can you tell me how I can change my URL later on?” This is one of the most frequently asked questions of our users.
Let’s see how this works. If you want to find out more about the URL, you are welcome to look at the Wikipedia page Wikipedia URL.

Basics – why is it important?

The event URL is an internet address generated by the system and is composed of the data you enter when you register.
Simply put, the event URL consists of:

Account name + lineupr.com + Name of the event

Example:

We gave our account the name “tennis club” when registering. The system generated “tennis-club.linepr.com” while checking in the background if the URL is still available. If the address is not available, you will get a notification.

Now we can create the first app and see how the URL is made up of the name of the account and the name of the event.

After creating the app, you can then continue on normally with filling it.
Changes to the URL can still be made!
You just have to be clear on which part you want to change.

Changing the account URL

Do you want to change your account URL? Then click on the avatar in the top right corner and choose:
“Account Settings”

Here you can customize your URL and also your account name.

Changing the event name

The question now is how to change the end part of our URL. To do this, go to General Settings on the Dashboard.

Now you can make an adjustment to the event URL.
The event name and the event URL can be different.

The URL can also be very simple, by making the part before and after “lineupr.com” minimalist.

This is how I shortened the rather long URL in just a few steps.

Note:

Customizations to the URL can be done quickly. Just be careful when you are doing it. Ideally, do it before the app is published because the old URL can no longer be retrieved by your users.

And how do you get rid of the lineupr.com?

Lineupr.com is part of the event URL. If you want to use your own URL, you need a white label solution.
The costs for this solution are € 999 per app.

We will be happy to provide you with further technical steps on request.

What should you have learned

Changing and adapting the event URL shouldn’t be difficult anymore and you know now that you can use your own website to link to the event app.

Reading time: 6 minutes

Summer Smith works in document management at Stargel Office Solution. Once a year, she becomes part of the team organizing the big Stargel Tech Event. After their event in Houston, we met for an interview.
Here she talks about her experiences with the app, what surprised her and how she will integrate the app even better into the organization of the next event.
We hope you enjoy reading this customer story.

LineUpr: Hello Summer. Thank you for taking the time to
do this interview. Please introduce yourself and Stargel Office Solutions.

Summer: I have been with Stargel for 20 years. Although my primary role is a document management consultant, I am often asked to assist with our marketing materials and events. Stargel Office Solutions is a privately-owned document solutions company. We see ourselves as a trusted partner in the area of document creation, production and management. Since 1987, we have endeavored to provide our clients with industry-leading technology coupled with exceptional service and proactive solutions. Our partnerships with leading manufacturers provide the best of both worlds; a highly responsive locally-owned company for sales and service, along with the organizational and technological resources of some of the world’s most respected product names.

LineUpr: You have used LineUpr for your Technology Event. Please tell us more about that event. What makes it special? Which target group did you want to address?

Summer: Annually, Stargel hosts a Technology Event held at Minute Maid Park, home of baseball’s Houston Astros. Food, beverages, product demonstrations, presentations from industry experts, contests and tickets to the baseball game are all included for our 500+ participants. We continually implement new ideas to keep it exciting, fun and informative. Our Technology Event is a great way for both our current and prospective customers to learn about our latest product offerings and recommended solutions while being entertained. A review of this year‘s event can be found in the below link.

LineUpr: What strategies and tools do you use when addressing this target group? Do you attach particular importance to something special?

Summer: Stargel reps identify potential and current customers early; marketing begins 3 to 4 months in advance. Save the dates, invitations, event details and event reminders are sent via email and followed up with phone calls made by the account representative. Once invited, our invitees will here from at least 4 times before the event.

LineUpr: Have you used event apps in the past? If so, what experiences have you had with it? If you have not used an app yet, what has been against it so far?

Summer: We learned of LineUpr during an event hosted by Docuware. Before this year, Stargel has never used an event app, primarily because of cost and time associated with <g class="gr_ gr_26 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="26" data-gr-id="26">set</g> up and management. Exploring other event apps was overwhelming as there are so many to choose from. Most offered more than we needed with a cost we could not justify.

It was only after we started using the app that the possibilities and benefits really became clear to us.

LineUpr: How much in advance do you publish the app? What information do you already communicate via the app before the event?

Summer: Not early enough… We did not publish the event until a week before the date. This was definitely due to our inexperience <g class="gr_ gr_13 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="13" data-gr-id="13">using</g> an event app. Through our email campaign, we are limited to an event overview and pertinent details. Once we started using the app, we began to see all the possibilities and benefits. We have already started a list of features we will take advantage of next year.

LineUpr: When and how do you inform the participants of the event about the event app?

Summer: We plan to include a link to the app on our very first communication, 3 to 4 months before the event, giving our attendees more time to connect with Stargel, our representatives, and vendors. The app included links to vendor websites as well as to the LinkedIn account for each Stargel representative. Results from google analytics indicated we had 506 unique users with 1,117 total sessions and an average of 05:17 minutes spent on the app this year. The app was only shared with participants who had already RSVP’d 1 week before the event. Next year, we anticipate to more than double these results by sharing the app in our initial Save the Date.

As a technology company, a tailor-made event app […] helps to spread our message.

LineUpr: How exactly do you use the survey function? How did you inform the participants about the usage of the app and how did you integrate the results into the event?

Summer: The survey feature was GREAT! In years past we had a printed questionnaire for each customer; it included contact information, existing fleet details and what topics they would like additional information on. We took each handwritten form, entered the results in excel and distributed it to the account representative. Having this done automatically was a HUGE time saver! We will take advantage of additional surveys next year.

LineUpr: How did your visitors react to the app?

Summer: Our guests loved the app! Customers were able to think about what sessions would most benefit them and create their agenda. The event map allowed attendees to easily find session locations. A special contest was hidden in the app to encourage guests to view all of the contents. As a technology company, having a custom event app helps separate us from the competition and solidify our message.

LineUpr: How has your event or event organization changed by using an event app?

Summer: Before the app, we did not have a platform for event participants to easily engage and connect. Now attendees have immediate access to speaker, vendor, representative and sponsor details right from their phone. The event data gained in our survey, google analytics and favorites collected within the app were extremely valuable. The information collected will help us make improvements for future events while providing insightful marketing details for targeted campaigns.

We used to have customers standing in line to pick up their badge before the event, most holding a crinkled invitation and even an email from the Stargel representative containing event details. Having the event details, driving directions and agenda all in one place is great and honestly, it is what customers have come to expect. The ability to communicate updates through the app was helpful; it is inevitable, there are always last-minute tidbits you wish to share. We were able to open the event earlier than expected, so we posted an update on the app. It was impressive to see the number of guests who read the post and arrived early; this helped to speed up our check-in process.

This year’s event included breakout sessions for the first time. In the past, we had a single presentation for the entire audience. Breakout sessions allow customers to hear more about topics they are interested in; by that same token, they allow Stargel to present more than just one topic. Without the app, the breakout sessions would not have been chaotic. Our event was a success, it was well organized, had great flow and attendees enjoyed attending smaller sessions. Customers knew where to go and what to expect, allowing them to focus on the information presented.

The approach to planning the annual technology event is the same as Stargel‘s everyday business model; go above and beyond the customers’ expectations. The LineUpr app helped us do just that. Our customers had a great time, information was well received, the feedback was positive and there are many opportunities for new business. Mission accomplished!

LineUpr: Which top three tips would you like to give to other organizers when using LineUpr?

Summer: Everything is customizable and easy to change! Don’t be afraid! If you make a mistake you can easily make a correction and the app will update immediately. I made a couple of spelling errors initially and was able to correct it before anyone <g class="gr_ gr_199 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="199" data-gr-id="199">noticed</g>.
Take advantage of the surveys and analytics.
Use a floorplan, this feature kept users on the app. After every session, the participants opened the app to locate the next session. The users were very impressed!

LineUpr: Thank you for the insightful interview. Here the app was used equally by the guests and the organizer. That’s how it’s supposed to be.

Summer: Of course, we are happy to pass on the tips to our other app users.

It will be exciting to see how you use the app next time. With the experience of this event, you will fulfill your goals.
